When I was given the opportunity for Spud to review a Music For Kids Pirate Recorder set I was really looking forward to receiving it. Spud hasn't got any instruments at home, he does have a toy piano that he play's with every now and again but not a real instrument. When I was a child I had a guitar and my Dad paid for me to do guitar lesson's, I think it was just a phase I went through, the next year I was learning how to play the recorder, I cant remember how to play either instrument now though, the year after that I joined book club!

 Spud was amazed from the moment he saw the box, I have seen recorder sets in shops before, but to be honest they all looked tacky and not worth there price at all. The box itself is a real seller, it had me drawn in straight away!

Inside the box we fount the following;
  • A high quality, three piece blue descant recorder.
  • Recorder cleaning rod.
  • A blue drawstring recorder carry bag.
  • Finger chart & handy 'Playing Your Recorder' tips.
  • Over 60 swash-buckling pirate stickers to decorate the recorder.
  • Easy to understand ''Starting To Play Recorder'' book and CD.
 I picked up the recorder and really didn't know where to start on trying to teach Spud how to play it, yes I had lessons when I was younger but I couldn't remember a single thing! Thankfully the set includes a step by step guide book and CD that work really well together. Spud decorated his blue recorder whilst I read through the book.

The book has clear illustrated pictures and is really useful, the child friendly guide instructs children on not only how to play the recorder but also how they should hold the recorder. The guide teaches your children how to play the A and B note to play Twinkle Twinkle Little Star & Old MacDonald Had A Farm.

Spud loves the recorder, we popped the CD into our CD player and listened before we worked with the CD, the book and CD can be used together but I wouldn't recommend this straight away.  At the end of the CD you even hear applauding, how great is that?

This is something I am definitely carrying on with Spud, at the moment we have a 20 minute practice twice a week and that's with a 5 minute break, anything more and Spud starts losing concentration and my ear's are on the verge of a breakdown. Spud cant wait to finish and complete the recorder course, and this picture below is the reason why!!

A cute little graduation certificate is at the back of the book, ready to be presented to your child when they can play the recorder! Want to know the best part? This set is sold for just £9.99!! I really couldn't believe it when I checked out the Music For Kids website and saw the price! The quality of the recorder and everything you get for the price is just amazing! It's not tacky at all and actually plays notes, I cant think of a better way to introduce the recorder to a child other then this set, have a little girl who isn't into pirates? Don't worry there is a also a Princess set available for the exact same price!

The only disadvantage is the noise, but at least it isn't a electric guitar! Noise is to be expected from instruments! They create music!!

The perfect children's alternative Christmas present!
