My 99p Summer Fun Post.

in , , by Jada, August 31, 2013
99p stores have been running a competition for bloggers during the summer, giving bloggers the chance to show off how much fun they could have with 10 products from the 99p store. I didn't want my post to concentrate on one day, but rather a number of days. I have been on benefits before and have struggled to make ends meet in the past. Finding stuff to keep children entertained can be difficult and rather expensive.

As a child, I watched Denis the Menace regularly, I remember it being one of the shows frequently shown weekdays after school. I would watch Denis and Nasher on one of their many naughty adventures and giggle along to their misbehaving's! Now Spud is getting a little older, he is getting more into older cartoons and Denis the Menace is one of these cartoons. Spud was delighted to receive some Denis goodies arriving on Nanny's door step when we was on holiday visiting her!

After a long summer break, it’s time to kit-up little menaces as they head back to school with a range of products from Britain’s most iconic comic, The Beano. The Beano team very kindly sent Spud the following two items below from The Beano range. More details can be found below with single product pictures.

Denis the Menace Water Bottle
£5.95 from www.foska.com

This 750ml capacity plastic water bottle is ideal to fill up with water for your children at school. Spud's school allow the children to have water from their bottles when ever they want during the day including lessons. I am not sure about other school procedures so if your child is not able to have water during lessons, this bottle is perfect for sports and lunchtimes!

The bottle has a wide neck which makes it extremely easy to fill with either tap water or bottled water! The bottle is fairly easy to operate as it's a screw cap. Simply unscrew the cap to fill and empty the bottle, and then screw the cap back on ready for your child to sip/drink away.

Denis the Menace A5 Collage Journal
£9.95 from www.bloomsburystore.com

The Beano A5 journal is a plain ruled note book. This vintage style journal features ultra cool comic artwork at both the front and back, on the outside and inside. I'm not sure of how many pages there are but I'd say at least 50, sorry I was too lazy to count!

The journal has an elastic style band that holds the pages of the journal neatly and tight together, your child could even hold snippets or important letters in place within the notebook, with the security of the band enabling anything not to fall out.

If your child has a important bit of homework that need's completing, to make it easier to find a selected page, the journal holds a ribbon bookmark making it easy to find that page your child needs!

Spud likes both of his new Denis items and has already informed me the bottle should be his new water bottle for P.E! Spud has been practising his spellings ready for his first day at junior school next week!

The Beano has some other great Denis the Menace back to school items which I have made into a collage below with the product information, price and websites of where you can buy them from.

Until next time,

Spud has been spoilt for choice this year with all the back to school items he has received, next up to be featured from Unique Young Mum's Back 2 Skool feature is Wilkinsons. Wilko very kindly sent Spud some items from their Galaxy Gang range, and some items from their Friendly Fairies range. Thanks to Wilko, three of my readers/visitors will have the chance to win the fab items we received themselves!

Galaxy Gang

We received the following items below from Wilko's Galaxy Gange range. Prices and details are below with individual product pictures.

Wilko Galaxy Gang Chunky Pencils, 90p for a pack of 6.

Suitable for ages 3+, you receive 6 chunky plain lead pencils in two different designs. Three of the pencil's are star themes and the other three are galaxy themed. Spud found the pencil's very easy to hold due to their thickness, unfortunately we don't have a big enough sharpener to sharpen them, so be warned if you do buy these, they do require a large sharpener as they are not pre-sharpened.

Wilko Galaxy Gang Chunky Felt Tip Pens, £1 for a pack of 6.

Suitable for ages 3+, you receive 6 chunky galaxy design felt tip pens. You receive the following colours; black, blue, green, red, orange and yellow. I was surprised for the price for the price how strong the colours were and Spud enjoyed using them. They have been added to his arts and crafts box for his next crafty adventure.

Wilko Galaxy Notebook A5 Wiro - £1.50 for 80 sheets.

Suitable for ages 3+, the Galaxy Gang notebook has 80 Galaxy Gang lined sheets. The notebook is not hardback, but is perfect for little ones to practise line writing and jotting down any little notes they have! For budding little story fans, for a small price they can create their own story!

Wilko Galaxy Gang Mini Art Pack - £1.75

Suitable for ages 3+, this little art set is perfect for on the go fun. The Galaxy Gang set contains; 8 coloured crayons (black, grey, orange, green, red, brown, blue and yellow), sharpener, eraser, plain led pencil, 12 coloured paint blocks (light green, purple, black, yellow, orange, light blue, brown, dark blue, light brown, red, pink and dark green) and a small paintbrush. The set closes back together and is perfect for car/train journeys bar the paint and is the perfect size to fit into a child's backpack!

Wilko Galaxy Gang Rocket Pencil Case Red - £2.50

Suitable for ages 3+, Spud loved the design on this rocket pencil case, but we found the pencil case a little small, we was able to fit 4 Galaxy Gang pencils in and all 6 of the colouring pens but had little room for any more. This would be the perfect starter pencil case for little ones starting school. The pencil case opens and closes with the use of a zip.

The Wilko Galaxy Gang range starts with prices as little as 50p and the most expensive being the pencil case at £2.50. To view more of the Galaxy Gang range check out the Galaxy Gange stationary page on the Wilko website.

Friendly Fairies

We received the following items below from Wilko's Friendly Fairies range. Prices and details are below with individual product pictures.

Wilko Friendly Fairies Chunky Pencils, 90p for a pack of 6.

Suitable for ages 3+, you receive 6 chunky plain lead pencils in one design, crowns and stars. Just like the Galaxy Gang pencils, the pencils are easy for children to hold due to their thickness. Unfortunately we don't have a big enough sharpener to sharpen them, so be warned if you do buy these, they do require a large sharpener as they are not pre-sharpened.

Wilko Friendly Fairies Roller Glitter Pens, £1.50 for a pack of 5.

Suitable for ages 3+, you receive 5 chunky Friendly Fairies glitter roller pens. You receive the following colours; pink, orange, green, blue and purple. I had to test the Friendly Fairies range out as Spud understandably refused to touch anything pink and girlie! I wish I was a little girl again, just so I had the excuse to use glitter pens in my life, with that being said, I am still young, so I have added them to my shopping list for when I next go town! The glitter was clearly visible and all the colours are very pretty!

Wilko Friendly Fairies Hardback Notebook A5 Wiro - £1.50 for 80 sheets.

Suitable for ages 3+ this hard back Friendly Fairies note book is just the cutest! The Friendly Fairies notebook has 80 Friendly Fairies lined sheets. This  notebook is perfect for little ones to practise line writing and jotting down any little notes they have! For budding little story fans, for a small price they can create their own story! The notebook also comes with two beaded dividers!

Wilko Friendly Fairies Mini Art Pack - £1.75

Suitable for ages 3+, this little art set is perfect for on the go fun. The Friendly Fairies set contains; 8 coloured crayons (black, grey, orange, green, red, brown, blue and yellow), sharpener, eraser, plain led pencil, 12 coloured paint blocks (light green, purple, black, yellow, orange, light blue, brown, dark blue, light brown, red, pink and dark green) and a small paintbrush. The set closes back together and is perfect for car/train journeys bar the paint and is the perfect size to fit into a child's backpack!

Wilko Friendly Fairies Faux Fur Pink Pencil Case - £2.50

Suitable for ages 3+, the Friendly Fairies pencil case comes in a hand bag design complete with handles. I found the pencil case a lot bigger than the Galaxy Gang one, and was able to fit the full pack of pencils and glitter pens in, with more room to still add in other items. The pencil case opens and closes with the use of a zip.

The Wilko Friendly Fairies range starts with prices as little as 35p and the most expensive being the pencil case at £2.50. To view more of the Friendly Fairies range, check out the Friendly Fairies stationary page on the Wilko website.

GALAXY GANG SET

FRIENDLY FAIRIES SET

When it comes to the period of getting all the back to school items our children need, many of us find stationary second on our list after uniform being first. When I was younger, I always associated Crayola as being the best children's stationary brand, you know every product has the original like with ketchup, it can only be Heinz, with me, children's stationary's best creators have to be Crayola.

Crayola very kindly sent Spud 3 of their fabulous items to review, and to feature in my back to school guide. The lovely team sent Spud the following items featured below!

12 Twistable Crayons - RRP £2.99

Spud eagerly tested out the Twistable Crayons first, crayons unfortunately break in their paper wrappings, so Spud was delighted to find crayons formed like a pen in a durable plastic coat! With pencils, when the lead comes to an end, we simply sharpen to get some more lead, with crayons they wear down, but with Crayola's Twistable Crayons, children simply twist the bottom of the pen style crayon to bring more crayon to the top once it has worn down.

The colours of the Twistable Crayons are very bright, and are excellent to colour in with, they are not too small nor too chunky, they are just right for children to colour in with! You receive 12 crayons that come in a handy storage wallet, ready for the crayons to be used over and over again, alternatively they would fit perfect in a child's pencil case!

Suitable for ages 3+ sold at Asda, WHSmith, Tesco, Amazon, Ryman, Staples and many more places.

12 Colouring Pencils - RRP £2.39

The pre sharpened coloured pencils were next to go through Spud's reviewing procedure, first he tried them in his pencil case, made sure they fitted perfectly, then expected each one individually to make sure the lead had not broke, all 12 passed the strong led test and this is thanks to Crayola's pencil's having a high breakage strength, making them far harder to break!

Crayola Colouring Pencils are sold in packs of 12, 24 (RRP £4.29) and 36 (RRP £6.29), all the pencils are bright strong colours and the perfect essential for all children starting or returning back to school. You can't go wrong with Crayola pencils, they will last a lot longer and are truly worth spending that little bit extra.

Suitable for ages 3+ sold at Asda, WHSmith, Tesco, Amazon, Ryman, Staples and many more places.

12 Bright Supertipes - RRP £3.49

The Bright Supertips were last to be put through their ropes, Spud's first preference when it comes to colouring in is definitely felt tips. Crayola Supertips are designed to give a smooth intense colour lay down providing super smooth coverage without the scratching look or squeaking sound! Each of the 12 Supertips lays down over 600 feet of colour

Kids are the most easiest suspects to get ink on their hands, but parents don't have to worry with Crayola because the Supertips ink washes off skin and clothing should a accident occur! Thanks to Crayola's fantastic technology and design, if the cap is left off a Supertip, the ink can easily be revived!

Crayola Supertips are also sold in packs of 24 with a RRP of £5.99.

Suitable for ages 3+ sold at Asda, WHSmith, Tesco, Amazon, Ryman, Staples and many more places.

Spud found all of the Crayola items we received very easy to use and has packed them into his new suitcase ready for his first day of junior school come September!

Chuggington is a children's animated show aired frequently on Cbeebies, join Wilson, Koko and Brewster (and their friends) as they learn to ride the rails, learn valuable lessons about friendship and working together. The trains in Chuggington are given task to complete, if they successfully complete their mission they are rewarded with a badge.

Back in July, TOMY very kindly sent Spud some of their new toys from the Chuggington Stack your Track range, first up we reviewed Koko's Ice Escape, you can read the review here, and you can also find all our other TOMY and Chuggington reviews here. Now it's time to introduce you to the smaller set in the range which is Koko's Safari Adventure, and thank you to the lovely team over at TOMY one of my very lucky readers/visitors will soon be the owner of one of these sets themselves!

For the first time ever, you can stack your Chuggington track as high as the sky. There's no limit to how high you can go...except maybe your ceiling! The new Chuggington Die-Cast playsets from TOMY feature revolutionary track that is engineered for stability with sturdy connections, letting you build elevated layouts like never before. Plus, every action-packed playset can be built multiple ways, so your imagination can run wild. We received Koko's Ice Escapade playset, Koko's Safari Adventure playset, a Chuggington Stack Track pack which includes 15 pieces that can be added to any Chuggington Diecast playset and Old Puffer Pete.

Koko's Safari Adventure is a smaller set from the Chuggington Die Cast Stack Track range but do not be fooled by the word small! Koko's Safari Adventure is a 3 in 1 play set meaning three times the fun for your little ones!

Inside the box we found 2 straight track pieces, 2 left curved track pieces, 2 right curved track pieces, strack track pieces, a tree with a monkey and a little box, a track drop curve piece, gates, a barrier, cargo, Koko, a cargo car and instructions.

The set was extremely easy to set up, and now as we are so used to setting the track up, we don't need the instructions any more. Spud can build the track together himself, but has a little bit of difficulty taking it apart. I'd say adult help or at least supervision is required for younger children.

Once set up the track doesn't take up much space at all, this set took us roughly 5 minutes to build when we first received it, now it takes just a few minutes.

Spud find's it hilliarious to get Koko and the cargo car 3/4 of the way to the top, to then let go and watch as Koko rolls back down the track, Spud calls this Koko's backwards slide.

Take Koko and the cargo car to the top of the track where the tree and monkey stands, pick up or drop off the cargo containing loads of banana's and make your way off onto another adventure. Children's imaginations are endless!

Koko's Safari Adventure as I mentioned previously is a 3 in 1 play set, all 3 sets are extremely easy to set up, and the track only takes a few minutes to dissemble.

You can even join two or more play set's together, in the photo above, we have joined Koko's Ice Escapade and Koko's Safari Adventure together!

The Stack Your Track Chuggington range is suitable for ages 3+ with this particular set retailing for around £25.99 (RRP). To find out more about the Chuggington Stack your Track range, check out the Stack your Track website.

To find out more about TOMY and their fabulous Chuggington ranges plus much more, check out the official TOMY website.
