Alphablocks: Letter Teams Volume 3 DVD Review

The lovely team over at Abbey Home Media who produce a large minority of popular children's DVD's have very kindly sent me and Spud 4 of their latest DVD releases. First up is The Alphablocks: Letter Teams Volume 3 DVD.

Alphablocks is the hit Cbeebies show for 3-7 year olds who are learning to read. The Alphablocks are twenty six living letters who discover that when they hold hands and make a word, the word magically comes to life. The Alphablocks have adventures, sing songs and make their own entertainment in a world where, literally, anything can happen. Alphablocks is based on the best-practice phonics teaching and helps children develop essential skills and confidence with reading. Alphablocks was created to follow the school curriculum helping children learn to read at home.

I've mentioned previously phonics was not one of Spud's strongest subjects, with help from me at home, his teachers at school, phonic learning items and the Alphablocks, phonics is not something Spud is behind with any more, he is just at the national average expected for his age. I encourage Spud to watch his other two Alphablocks DVD's (Volume 1 and 2) and he was delighted when volume 3 landed through our door step!

Volume 3, just like the previous two volumes is very educational, but bright and fun to keep the younger audience which its aimed at to remain focused. The DVD has 17 short episodes which roughly last around 4 minutes each, volume 3 takes phonics to the next steps by pairing two letters together to make common phonics sounds such as sh, ch, th, oo, ng, ee, ar and ph, the DVD also introduces some 3 letter phonic sounds.

The DVD has a total running time of 87 minutes, and is educational fun. I know some parents do not like to let their children watch a lot of TV, but just over an hour of viewing from the Alphablocks is an hour of knowledge your child can gain.

The Alphablocks Volume 3 is available to buy with a suggested RRP of £9.99 from Sainsburys,  Amazon, Play.com and Blockbuster.
