Love Your Living Room

If you’re anything like me, you’ll spend a lot of time in your living room. It’s the place where you watch your favourite TV programmes, cuddle your kids and curl up with your favourite book when the little ones are in bed. As you spend so much time there, it’s important to make sure your living room is at its most fabulous best – so that you can really relax and invite friends over without a second thought.

Get crafty with your sitting room by putting your creative skills to good use. You don’t have to be an expert to come up with some impressive and unusual ways to revamp this most important of rooms. You could turn an old door into something new, unique and you! Or you could turn a mirror into a tray by sticking some felt backing underneath, and use it to display your favourite ornaments. If you’re not the kind of girl who has ornaments, use your new mirror tray as a base for a small lamp: the light will be reflected around the room for a gorgeous glow.

Shop at flea markets or second hand stores to find lots of inexpensive candles. Then, glue them to a vintage tray to create an impressive display of light that makes your living room look like something out of the pages of an interiors magazine!

Make your bookcase a centrepiece by putting different scraps of wallpaper into each space. This is an inexpensive way to create a totally new look for your living room. You don’t need to buy rolls of wallpaper – ask for samples at your local DIY shop, and decorate for free!

Rearranging your furniture is one of the simplest ways you can give your living room a brand new look. Position your duresta sofas and chairs around the fireplace instead of the TV, for example – to create a super cosy atmosphere that you and the kids will want to stay in forever!

To transform your coffee table, get some glass cut to fit, then select your favourite family photos. Place the photos all over the table, then use adhesive to press the glass on and create an impressive centrepiece that is unique to you and your family.

If your living room lacks end tables, you can make your own without spending a penny. Pile up your favourite books beside the sofa, and you’ve got an instant and individual surface to rest your cup of tea within easy reach.

Make your own art for the living room by picking up vintage frames. Display them on their own for a quirky look, or fill them with items that are special to you and your family. You could even frame those precious leaves collected by little ones for a lovely reminder of the fun you’ve had at the park. You can use anything you like for this – so get the kids to join in and come up with some interesting ideas!
