Happy 10th Birthday Spud!

by Jada, March 30, 2016
To my gorgeous darling boy Spud, today you turn 10 years old, your first set of double digits and what a 10 years it's been.

Right now I'm guessing we're opening your presents in the living room, how your present list has changed over the years, gone are the plastic toy mobile phones and my first laptops, and in are the real phones, laptops and tablets!

No more Thomas, Winnie the Pooh or Mickey Mouse. Now it's all about Pokemon, Batman, Disney Tsum Tsum's and TY Beanie Boos, along with a phone case for the iPhone I plan to give you once I've sorted out my new upgrade.

Today you turn 10, my big boy, who'll always be my baby.

Today we're going bowling with me - your mummy, I can't face the fact that soon I won't hear that word from your mouth anymore, soon it will be mum, mother or maybe even marge, your stepdad, your grandad, cousins and aunties.

You made your own birthday plans this year, you wanted a meal which we had on Saturday with your family, and you wanted to go bowling with your cousins. You specifically asked for these plans, when I asked you what you wanted to do this year.

Gone are the days where I planned a party with your advice, now you plan everything by yourself, my baby is turning into a young man.

Each day I look at you, and realise how much you don't need me anymore, it saddens me.

Once you needed me for everything, and now, the list is getting smaller and smaller, soon you'll need me for hardly anything, but I want you to know I'll always be there for you, no matter what you need from me.

You wake up in the morning and you can make your own cereal, it took me ages to take the safety catch of the kitchen drawers as I'm so worried about the knives and other sharp cutlery, but you promised and proved to me that you would only reach for the spoons.

I'm not comfortable with teaching you how to use the toaster or oven yet, so it's only cereal you can do, but I know in a few years time, this will be a different story.

I know today you won't need as much help with your new toys, as you're getting more and more independent by the day. You may need me to help with batteries, but you won't need my help to set up anything, as you're now a whizz at doing such.

I also know you won't need as much help when we go bowling, I will advise you on the best bowling ball to use just incase you try and go for the heaviest, but I will relax a little more and sit back whilst you play with your cousins, whilst watching your beautiful smile spread across your face.

Since your 9th birthday, you've been referred to a new part of the hospital, not new to the hospital itself, but new to us, and it's something you was anxious about for a very long time. We went to occupational therapy and played some games and done some task and you took it all in your stride, even though you was so worried prior to the appointment.

Life has thrown so much at you, but you never stop smiling or being that super happy boy that you're.

Everyone in the family says how well behaved you are, along with your teachers at school, and me. You're the most pleasant boy I know, you're so well behaved, polite and helpful also, I'm so proud to call you my son.

You fill my heart with wonder and joy, to say I'm the proudest mummy is the biggest understatement ever heard. You make the sunshine shinier and the blue a bluer blue.

I love you, my baby boy - because no matter what age you're, you'll always be mummy's baby!

Forever and always,
Mummy xx

Tips For Healthy Glowing Skin.

by Jada, March 29, 2016
Healthy, luminous skin doesn’t come naturally to all women, and many will utilise a variety of cosmetics and skin care products to try and achieve that coveted look. However, there are some ways to improve your skin even if genetics are not in your favour – here are 5 tips to help you get that glow all year round.

Eat a Balanced Diet

A luminous glow starts on the inside, so a healthy, well-balanced diet is essential when looking to achieve a radiant complexion. A good diet will include of the vitamins and nutrients your skin and body needs to function and grow on a daily basis, so don’t forget to fill your plate with lots of colour. A well-balanced diet will not only help your skin glow, but it will also give you more energy, help you sleep better and fight off sickness and disease.

Drink Lots of Water

While you’re eating a balanced diet, it’s important to also drink lots of water throughout the day. In fact, it’s recommended that you drink up to 8 glasses of water each day (or 2-3 litres) to ensure your body stays hydrated. Your skin clearly shows when your body is dehydrated, so make sure to boost your water intake to achieve a glowing complexion.

Remove Makeup Before Bed

No matter how tempting it is to fall straight into bed after a busy day or a big night out, don’t go to sleep without removing all of your makeup. A simple makeup removal wipe can be purchased at most pharmacies and supermarkets, so make sure you always have a supply next to your bed and in the bathroom so you can quickly remove your makeup at the end of the day. This is important as it will give your skin time to breathe overnight and prevent your pores from congesting.

Use a Good Cleanser

Wearing makeup for the whole day clogs your pores and causes impurities, so when you take your makeup off at the end of the day, it’s also important to cleanse the skin with a good-quality cleanser. A good cleanser (made from natural and organic ingredients if possible) will remove impurities from your skin to ensure there is no lingering grime left on the surface to cause breakouts.

Speak to the Professionals

If you have experienced acne or have acne scaring as a result of a breakout, consider speaking to a skin specialist, such as Cosmetic Surgery for Women , for professional advice. Backed by a wealth of expert knowledge, a surgeon can help you with the right treatment and care to give you healthy, glowing skin in no time! Depending on our condition, this could be something light and unobtrusive or a ore extensive treatment.

Healthy, glowing skin makes you look younger and less tired, so there’s no doubting why women all around the world find it desirable. Follow these 5 tips if you want to have clean skin with a natural radiance.

Six Things Your New Pony Needs!

by Jada, March 29, 2016
Once your child is a competent horse rider, the next stage is to buy her a pony. Keeping a pony is expensive, but your child’s horse riding skills will improve immeasurably once she has her own pony to ride every day. You will also save a fortune on paid lessons, so overall a pony might not be as costly as you originally feared it would. So what six things does your new pony need?
Somewhere to Live
You can’t keep a pony in the backyard – not unless you have several acres of land behind your home. Lisa from the Simpsons made the mistake of keeping her pony in the garden and it ended badly.
Ponies need secure grazing. Most people keep their pony at a livery yard. Livery yards are set up for owners to keep their animals in a safe environment. In return for a weekly/monthly fee, you will have access to grazing, a stable, food, hay and straw, and somewhere to keep your horsey bits and pieces. You can also enjoy the company of other horse owners, which is great if you want to ride out with someone.
Halter and Lead Rope
You can’t lead a pony from the field into his stable without a halter and lead rope. It would be dangerous. Nylon and rope halters are cheap, but if you want a halter that will last, buy a good quality leather one.
Saddle and Bridle
Fit is very important when you buy a saddle and bridle. Your new pony might already have his own tack, but if you have to buy it, make sure you have the saddle correctly fitted. You can choose between a western-style saddle and an English-style one. An ill-fitting saddle is very painful for a horse, and if the seat is too small for your bottom, it won’t be very comfortable for you either.
Grooming Kit
Ponies need to be brushed daily. This is good for their coat, as it removes excess grease and mud from the field. It also keeps their skin in good condition. A basic grooming kit should contain a soft body brush, a curry comb, a hoof pick, a comb for the main and tail, and a stiff brush for muddy areas.
Turnout Rug
Less hardy breeds of horse and pony need a rug on before they are turned out into the paddock on a cold, wet day. Rugs vary in thickness, so choose an appropriate one for the weather conditions. Rugs also need to fit correctly: too small and it will rub and too large and it will fall off.
Stable rugs are useful for when your pony is stabled at night and exercise rugs protect a clipped pony on cool days.
Insurance
One thing you can’t afford to forget about is equine insurance. Ponies are prone to injury and veterinary care can be horrifically expensive. Always invest in a comprehensive equine insurance policy when you buy a pony, or you could end up paying some very large vet bills.
Buy your horse kit from a horse supply store such as the One Stop Equine Shop.
Until next time, Jada x

My Five Picks On Easter Family Movies!

by Jada, March 25, 2016
With the Easter holidays now amongst us, and the weather not looking too grand, I'm going to share a few post with you on how to keep the children entertained during the Easter holidays! From arts and crafts to family movies, not only are they Easter approved, but they're also cheap to do on a budget, making not only the children happy, but the parents also!

For this post, I'm going to be talking about Easter related movies, grab the popcorn, pick a movie and sit back and relax! We're going to be watching from our new Panasonic Viera, using our popcorn tubs that cost me a right bargain of just one pound each and some limited edition popcorn from Butterkist - it's hot cross bun flavoured!

Movie Number 1: Disney's The Good Dinosaur

It's not so much about Easter, but it is Disney's newest DVD and Blu-Ray release! It does feature an egg at the very beginning when Arlo - the main dinosaur in the movie is born! The journey follows Arlo embarking on a new found friendship after becoming separated from his family! He meets a cave boy called Spot who's also lost his family but both are eventually reunited with their families! Be prepared for happy tears!

Movie Number 2: HOP

Blending state of the art animation with live action, Hop is a comedy about E.B., the teenage son of the Easter Bunny. On the eve of taking over the family business, E.B. leaves for Hollywood in pursuit of his dream of becoming a drummer. He encounters Fred, an out-of-work slacker with his own lofty goals, who accidentally hits E.B. with his car. Feigning injury, E.B. manipulates Fred into providing him shelter, and Fred finds himself with the world’s worst houseguest. The film is helmed by Tim Hill, director of the blockbuster Alvin and the Chipmunks and produced by Chris Meledandri’s Illumination Entertainment (Despicable Me).

Movie Number 3: Shaun the Sheep Movie

Aardman, the creators of Wallace & Gromit and Chicken Run, bring you Shaun The Sheep - The Movie. Shaun is a clever, mischievous sheep who lives with his flock on Mossy Bottom Farm, under the nominal supervision of The Farmer. Despite Shaun’s best efforts, life on the farm has got into a bit of a rut, and Shaun concocts a cunning plan - to have a day off. Events rapidly escalate out of control and Shaun’s mischief inadvertently leads to the hapless farmer being taken away from the farm and into the Big City. With the flock’s help, Shaun must leave the farm for the first time in order to rescue The Farmer. But how will the sheep survive?

Movie Number 4: Jesus Movie

If like the Unique Young Mum household you're religious, the Jesus Movie transports children to Nazareth for the story of Jesus' birth. Showing us the true meaning of Easter, it follows his life and miracles along the shores of Lake Galilee and ends in Jerusalem with his arrest, crucifixion and resurrection - all in one dramatic 80-minute movie. The excitement and joy of Jesus' life, the danger and conflict with the Pharisees, the challenge and growth of the disciples - it's all here in a simple, straightforward narrative. More Christian titles can be found at Eden.

Movie Number 5: Springtime With Roo

It is the most beautiful spring day ever. Bees are buzzing, flowers are blooming and Roo, Pooh and Tigger are ready to laugh and play but Rabbit expects them all to stay inside until every last bit of spring-cleaning is finished. Friendship and compassion provide a memorable Easter celebration in Springtime with Roo. Roo's excitement on Easter morning is boundless, but when he, Winnie-the-Pooh, Piglet, Tigger, and Eeyore arrive at Rabbit's door for the big Easter egg hunt, Rabbit seems to have forgotten Easter and proclaims it "Spring Cleaning Day" instead! Will the egg hunt go ahead!?

Can you think of any others? I'd love to read your comments below!
